Iverson's tattoos characterize his tough personality. Coincidently the most of the tattoos
came in his 3rd season when Allen took his game to another level. He seemed more focused.
Maybe it had to do with the fact whenever he felt
down he just had to look at his arms for inspiration.

As usual Iverson sets trends and like his cornrows more and more
NBA players are getting tattoos. And it is less frowned upon by the
league. However it didn't stop the Hoop Magazine (the official NBA
magazine) from air-brushing out his tattoos, which upset
Iverson.
"[The photo] was an insult, terrible," Iverson said. "I wish
they wouldn't use me at all if they can't accept all of me. I have
things on my body that are just tattoos to others but mean a lot to
me, about my mother, my grandmother, my kids, my fiance.

When he first came into the NBA his arms were bare.
Until his third season he only had two sets of tattoos from his college days, the praying hands
with the initials of his mum & grandma on his chest and the
Bulldog with words The Answer above it on his arm. Actually the bulldog is not related to the Georgetown mascot.

Then after his second season Iverson went tattoo
crazy! He got at least seven more tattoos.
This might have been at the realization the league will never
fully accept him and that he should take his rebelliousness to the
next level.
It might have been the tattoos that caused a break-out
third season for Iverson. He became one of the league's best
players and also took Philadelphia to its first playoffs in 8
years.
